ヨーグルトとは、原料である牛乳に乳酸菌や酵母を混ぜて発酵させて作る発酵食品のひとつ。完全栄養食といわれるほど栄養価が高い牛乳と同等の栄養素を誇り、「人間にとって必要不可欠な三大栄養であるたんぱく質、脂質、炭水化物に加え、カルシウム、ビタミンA、ビタミンB群やカリウムなども含まれています」と、ヨーグルトは腸活の強い味方になると話すお医者さん。「栄養面でも優れているヨーグルトの摂取を習慣づければ、豊富に含まれている乳酸菌との相乗効果で腸内の善玉菌が増え、腸内環境が自然に整っていくというメリットもあります」

腸内には1000種類以上、約100兆個もの腸内細菌が棲み、腸の中で群れているのがお花畑のように見えることから、腸内フローラと呼ばれています。菌は主に3種類に分けられ、善玉菌約20％、悪玉菌約10％、日和見菌約70％のバランスを保っているのが理想的。どれも私たちが食べたものをエサにしているので、毎日の食生活が重要です。「腸内細菌の多様性を維持しながら腸内環境を整えるためにも、乳酸菌が豊富なヨーグルトは有効です」と先生。
